Nigerian singer Chike has stirred conversations after revealing the relationship advice his mother has repeatedly given him.
Speaking in a recent interview, he explained that his mother has always warned him not to settle down with a woman who isn’t actively doing something meaningful with her life. According to him, she believes a partner should already have a sense of purpose and be contributing in some way, rather than depending entirely on someone else.
Chike noted that love alone shouldn’t be the deciding factor when choosing a partner. He shared that his mother made it clear he shouldn’t get carried away by emotions and ignore whether a woman is productive or not. For her, it’s not about appearances or pretending to be busy, but genuinely having something going on.

He added that being with someone who isn’t contributing can come with extra responsibilities, as a person may end up carrying more weight than expected in the relationship. He also pointed out that situations where a partner has heavy family responsibilities without being financially stable can increase that burden.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with some people agreeing with the practicality of his mother’s advice, while others feel relationships shouldn’t be based mainly on financial or career contributions.
