Governor Alex Otti has revealed ambitious plans to reduce Abia State’s reliance on Nigeria’s national electricity grid, signaling a major change in the state’s energy strategy.
According to the governor, the state government is supporting a private-sector-led initiative aimed at providing a more stable and reliable power supply for residents. Discussions are reportedly ongoing internationally to help bring the project to fruition.
Governor Otti emphasized the significance of the move, saying,
“My main target is to remove the entire Abia from the National grid. My Hon. Commissioner for Power is in the Netherlands negotiating for this. Even though it’s a private enterprise, we are ready to support it because it will benefit us all.”
If successful, Abia could become one of the few states in Nigeria to significantly reduce dependence on the national grid, which has long been criticized for inefficiency and frequent power outages.
