The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to hold its 2026 national convention at Eagle Square, Abuja, with over 8,400 delegates expected to participate. Leading the delegation will be President Bola Tinubu, 31 state governors, and members of his cabinet.

The event, scheduled for March 27–28, was detailed by Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee. Speaking at a briefing at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Idris highlighted the party’s preparedness, logistics plans, and its commitment to promoting democratic values during the convention.

“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” Idris said, emphasizing that APC members must reflect the strong internal democratic principles championed by the president.

The upcoming convention is expected to strengthen the party’s internal structures while providing a platform for members to select national leaders. The party has confirmed that a consensus approach will be adopted for choosing its top officials.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Mary Ikoku, APC Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, noted that the approach to elective positions during primaries will depend on local political dynamics, as final decisions are yet to be determined.

Thursday’s preparatory meeting brought together governors, members of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee, ministers, and special advisers, including:

Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development

Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy

Sunday Dare, Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation

The convention will allow the APC to elect national executives tasked with overseeing party operations ahead of the 2027 general elections. These new officers will also organize party primaries to produce candidates for presidential, governorship, House of Assembly, and National Assembly elections.
