A viral video has ignited intense reactions online after a Nigerian man urged citizens to arm themselves in response to escalating insecurity across parts of the country. The clip shows him criticising government officials for what he describes as their failure to protect lives, citing recent attacks in Plateau State and other vulnerable regions.
In the footage, he warned:
“Nigerians, go and get yourself a gun. Forget any project or investment you want to pursue — just get yourself a very big gun. Your president is no longer interested in securing your lives; he’s focused on a second term in 2027. The Governor of Plateau State arrived in an armoured vehicle and refused to step out. What did he say? ‘We will bury the dead.’ Nothing about justice, nothing about arresting the perpetrators.”
Citizens on Edge Amid Rising Insecurity
His statements come amid growing fears over rural killings, displacement, and attacks in northern and central Nigeria. The man’s comments reflect frustration shared by many Nigerians who feel abandoned by national security agencies.
He further lambasted the country’s leadership, asserting:
“Your Chief of Army Staff is more interested in quoting parables than apprehending the culprits. Many villages are deserted, and the press isn’t reporting most of these tragedies. We are on our own.”
The remarks have sparked widespread debate online, with some defending his call for self-protection as a harsh reality check, while others warned against vigilantism and the dangers of promoting civilian armament.
A Nation’s Frustration
The video has reignited discussions on government accountability, citizen safety, and the role of security agencies in protecting lives. Many Nigerians argue that repeated delays in response to attacks contribute to public distrust and a growing sense of helplessness.
