Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent wave of deadly attacks reported in parts of Nigeria, including Benue State.

In a strongly worded statement, Atiku expressed concern that lives continue to be lost despite earlier assurances from the presidency that such incidents would be brought under control.

He pointed to the killings in Benue, where over a dozen people were reportedly killed, describing the situation as deeply troubling and a sign that more needs to be done to protect citizens.

Atiku also referenced reports from Nasarawa State, where residents were said to have fled their communities on foot out of fear of possible attacks. According to him, similar incidents in Kaduna further highlight a growing pattern of insecurity across different regions.

“The primary responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property,” he said, stressing that Nigerians deserve to feel safe in their own communities.

He urged the government to move beyond assurances and take concrete steps to address the situation, warning that repeated promises without visible results are no longer enough.

“Enough of these hollow rhetoric. It is time to get to work,” he added.

Atiku also extended condolences to families affected by the attacks, noting that the pain of losing loved ones is shared across the nation.
