A Nigerian man who left his home country at just 19 years old has been deported from the United States after living there for nearly five decades.

The heartbreaking development was shared by his granddaughter, known on TikTok as @Majormicc, in a post that has since gone viral. She revealed that her grandfather, Joe, was deported without proper documentation and that family members were not given the opportunity to say goodbye.

According to her, the family has not heard from him since his deportation. She explained that her mother was only able to speak with him twice while he was being held at an ICE detention center in Louisiana — and was charged $106 for the calls.

“Everything is happening so fast, we still haven’t heard from him,” she wrote. “My mum spoke with him twice when he was in Louisiana at the ICE center, and they charged her $106.”

The granddaughter expressed deep distress over the situation, noting that her grandfather is nearly 70 years old and has no place to stay in Nigeria. She appealed to the public for legal guidance and support, describing the experience as traumatic for the family.

“Elderly deportation shouldn’t happen like this. My grandfather is almost 70 years old. We need legal guidance and support, please share. I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye. They didn’t allow anyone to say goodbye — no families were allowed to say goodbye,” she wrote.

While the emotional post has sparked sympathy and concern online, the exact circumstances that led to the man’s deportation have not been made public.

The family continues to seek answers and assistance as they try to locate and support their loved one following his return to Nigeria.
