Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has captured the attention of Nigerians online after a video of his heartfelt message to young people went viral across social media. In the widely shared clip, Agu offered candid reflections on the importance of enjoying youth while also preparing wisely for old age.
Enjoy Your Youth, But Be Mindful
Speaking in a reflective tone, Agu urged young people to make the most of their youthful years. “Enjoy yourself now that you are young. Old age is full of challenges. If it is not diabetes, it is high blood pressure. If it is not heart problems, it may be kidney or liver issues. If it is not stroke, then it could be problems with the brain and many others,” he said.
He stressed the urgency of time: “Time waits for no one. Live your life to the fullest while you have the opportunity. Old age is not child’s play.” Referencing scripture, he reminded viewers of Ecclesiastes 3:1: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
The Balance Between Enjoyment and Preparation
While encouraging youth to enjoy life, Agu warned against wasting it without planning for the future. “There is time for everything. Enjoy your youth while you can. You never can tell what lies ahead. But while enjoying your youth, make sure you are preparing for old age. It is not easy at all,” he said.
Reinforcing the importance of foresight, he added, “As you make your bed, so you will lie on it… You will not pluck what you did not plant. You will not reap where you did not sow,” quoting further from Ecclesiastes 3:2: “A time to plant, and a time to pluck.”
Financial Discipline and Family Values
Agu also emphasized financial planning and strong family ties as pillars for a comfortable old age. “Old age is best enjoyed when you prepare for it. I am not trying to scare you; I am only saying it the way it is. Hold God tight. Treat your family right and make plenty money. Your bills will not pay themselves. Invest now while you can,” he said.
He highlighted the contrast between youthful spending and future responsibilities: “The bills you will pay in your old age will be much more expensive than what you spend in clubs. At that time, you will not be spending and smiling with hope that more will come. Instead, you will be spending with worries, preparing, and counting your days.”
A Message That Resonates
Concluding his advice, Agu reminded Nigerians that preparation is key to enjoying life later: “Old age is a journey, and only those who are prepared reach their destination peacefully. Make hay while the sun shines. Let those who have ears hear.”
He ended with a prayer: “I pray we all get there in good health and wealth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
“Uncle Chiwetalu Agu said it: Play hard now, because old age doesn’t take excuses. Collect memories while your knees still work! 🥂✨”
“Enjoy yourself while you’re still young. Old age comes with many challenges. Time waits for no one, so live your life to the fullest while you can.”
