Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after attending his late mother’s burial.

El-Rufai was earlier granted temporary release on compassionate grounds following his mother’s death, allowing him to participate in her burial in Abuja, which drew several prominent political figures.

Court Proceedings Resume

Shortly after the burial, the former governor appeared before the Kaduna State High Court in connection with one of the charges filed against him. However, the hearing could not proceed due to the absence of a co-defendant, leading the court to adjourn the case until April 10, 2026.

He was subsequently taken to the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application is being considered as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

Back to Custody

Following the court appearances, El-Rufai was returned to ICPC custody, where he will remain as the cases against him continue to unfold.

Ongoing Legal Battle

The situation remains closely watched, with multiple charges reportedly being pursued and key hearings expected in both the state and federal courts in the coming days.
