A UK-based Nigerian man has sparked mixed reactions online after proudly sharing his experience of picking up free items left on the street — a common practice in many parts of the UK.
In a video, he addressed critics who have questioned his lifestyle and even mocked him for frequently collecting discarded items. According to him, many people wrongly assume he is unemployed because of it.
“People keep asking if I don’t work because I pick things from the street. Some even said I was cursed, but God has put them to shame,” he said.
He went on to explain that his excitement stems from being able to access items he once couldn’t afford. He revealed that he recently picked up a dustbin he previously couldn’t buy for £5, as well as a fully functional refrigerator left outside for free.
“When I wanted to buy the dustbin, I couldn’t afford £5. Now I got one for free. I also saw a clean fridge outside with a note saying it’s working perfectly — and it really is,” he added.
The man emphasized that taking advantage of free items abroad is practical and should not be looked down on. He insisted that his actions do not define his financial status or work ethic.
His story has since generated debate online, with some praising his resourcefulness and others questioning the habit.
Would you pick up free items like this, or do you think it’s something to be ashamed of?
