Fresh controversy has emerged after Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, denied ever referring to the President as a “drug lord.”

Speaking during a heated interview, Bwala insisted that viral statements attributed to him were taken out of context and widely misrepresented.

“I have never in my life addressed Tinubu as a drug lord. In fact, I have never believed in it,” he said.

The interviewer pushed back, suggesting that video evidence might exist to contradict his claim. But Bwala stood his ground, even challenging that such footage be produced immediately if available.

He also addressed another widely circulated statement claiming he once said giving Tinubu 30 years in power would not make a difference.

According to him, that comment was misunderstood. He explained that he was criticising government policy at the time — not attacking Tinubu personally.

“I said if a policy is fundamentally flawed, even 30 years cannot fix it,” he clarified.

Bwala went further to criticise what he described as poor verification practices in Nigerian media, arguing that social media narratives are increasingly shaping mainstream reporting without proper fact-checking.

He warned that misinformation spreads easily when context is ignored, adding that journalists and researchers must return to source materials before publishing claims.

The comments have since sparked debate online, with many Nigerians questioning whether past statements are being rewritten — or simply misunderstood.
