Nigerian businessman Keji Giwa has sparked debate on social media after openly describing himself as a “walking red flag” while discussing relationships and marriage.
During a recent conversation, Giwa spoke candidly about his personal life and why his relationship status often raises questions among people who meet him.
Why being single at his age raises questions
According to Giwa, being nearly 50 and still unmarried naturally makes people suspicious, especially in a society where marriage is often expected at a certain age.
“I am single, almost 50… I would be surprised if you don’t consider me a red flag,” he said.
He added jokingly that he understands why some people see his long-term bachelorhood as a warning sign in the dating world, noting that many assume there must be a reason a man his age remains unmarried.
Giwa explained that cultural expectations in Nigeria often place strong pressure on men to settle down early, making lifelong bachelorhood seem unusual—even for successful individuals.
Wealth and attraction in relationships
The businessman also addressed relationships involving wealthy older men and younger partners. According to him, the attraction in such relationships is sometimes tied more to financial security than genuine emotional connection.
“The attraction is not that he’s good-looking. The attraction is some level of security,” he explained.
He cautioned that relationships built mainly on financial expectations can easily lead to disappointment when reality sets in.
The illusion of wealth
Giwa further noted that wealth can sometimes create misleading impressions in relationships. He said some women who initially assume he lives a flashy lifestyle later realize that appearances can be deceptive.
“Some women get to know me properly and realize that not all glitter is gold,” he said.
He concluded by pointing out what he believes is one of the biggest warning signs in modern dating.
“One of the walking red flags is the illusion that he has money when he doesn’t.”
His remarks have since sparked conversations online about wealth, expectations in relationships, and societal pressure surrounding marriage.
