The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to remove the names of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark from its official portal.

The move, according to the commission, is in compliance with a recent Court of Appeal ruling directing all parties involved in the party’s leadership dispute to maintain the status quo pending the final determination of the case before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Court Ruling Drives Decision

INEC explained that the decision stems from a judgment delivered on March 12, 2026, which cautioned against any action that could interfere with the ongoing legal process.

As part of that directive, the commission stated that it would reverse the earlier upload of the current NWC members, noting that their names were added to its portal shortly after the dispute was filed in court in September 2025.

According to INEC, removing the names is necessary to preserve the legal position that existed before the case began, ensuring that no party gains undue advantage while the matter remains unresolved.

Leadership Crisis Deepens

The ADC has been caught in a prolonged internal crisis, with two factions laying claim to the party’s leadership. One group is aligned with David Mark, while another is led by Nafiu Bala Gombe.

INEC also disclosed that it declined a request from the Gombe-led faction seeking official recognition, stating that such a move would violate the court’s directive.

Commission Steps Back

In a further step, the electoral body announced that it would suspend all interactions with both factions of the party. This includes monitoring party meetings, congresses, or conventions until a final court judgment is delivered.

The commission emphasised its commitment to neutrality and adherence to the rule of law, stressing that it will continue to act strictly within the bounds of judicial directives.

What This Means

The development adds another layer to the ADC’s internal struggle, which is now firmly in the hands of the courts. Until a final ruling is delivered, the party’s leadership structure remains uncertain, with both factions unable to secure official recognition.
