A South African woman has sparked reactions online after sharing her experience regarding safety concerns and warnings she received about visiting Lagos, Nigeria.

In a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter), she revealed that many people had cautioned her against visiting Lagos, claiming she could be kidnapped. Despite these warnings, she dismissed the claims and filmed herself walking freely at night in Lekki.

“This is Lagos at midnight. They said I shouldn’t come here because I could be kidnapped. Look at me walking in the streets of Lekki with our phones out — nothing is happening. If you listen to social media people, you wouldn’t go anywhere in life. They made it seem like if I walk anywhere, I’ll be kidnapped. Where are they now? Where are the people?” she said in the video.

The clip, reportedly recorded around 12 a.m. with the time visible on her phone, has generated mixed reactions online.

While some users agreed with her, arguing that Lagos is often exaggerated as unsafe, others warned that security concerns should not be dismissed.

One user wrote, “It’s easy to walk in Lekki. Try Kaduna and tell us your experience.” Another added, “It’s good nothing happened to you, but security concerns are still real.”

The discussion continues to trend, with netizens debating the realities of safety in Lagos compared to other parts of Nigeria.
