Operatives of the Ogun State Community Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have arrested a 27-year-old man, Emmanuel Awahnse, for allegedly stealing three goats in Ipokia Local Government Area.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended inside a church during the naming ceremony of his child.
Early Morning Theft
According to the Corps Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, the suspect was first sighted on February 6, 2026, at about 5:00 a.m. by operatives patrolling the Madoga–Ita-Ege road.
Awahnse, who was said to be riding a motorcycle with an accomplice, reportedly attempted to flee when approached by patrol officers. During the pursuit, the pair abandoned both the motorcycle and a black bag they were carrying.
Upon inspection, the bag was found to contain three goats suspected to have been stolen.
Arrest After Surveillance
Following the discovery, a surveillance team was deployed to trace the suspects. Awahnse, also known as Ariwo Oja and said to be a native of Odoforo in Ipokia, was eventually arrested on February 19 at about 1:30 p.m.
Preliminary investigations indicate that he and his alleged accomplice, identified as Ketonsu (alias Ijagun), stole the goats from Ifonyintedo.
Handed Over to Police
Dr. Ganzallo confirmed that the suspect and the recovered animals have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Idiroko Division, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The So-Safe Corps reiterated its commitment to strengthening community security and ensuring swift action against criminal activities across Ogun State.
The incident has since sparked conversations about vigilance at community gatherings and the importance of local patrol efforts in curbing theft.
