A Nigerian man has sparked widespread reactions online after breaking down in tears over the challenges of raising a newborn on his own.
He revealed that his girlfriend allegedly abandoned him with their baby just two weeks after giving birth, leaving him emotionally drained and physically exhausted.
In a viral TikTok video, the distressed father explained that the baby cries almost constantly, making it impossible for him to work or carry out daily activities.
Overwhelmed by the pressure and lack of support, he admitted that he was pushed into making a heartbreaking decision he never imagined he would face.
“My girlfriend left me with a two-week-old baby. The child cries nonstop. I can’t work, I can’t do anything. Two days ago, I took her to an orphanage home so I could do what I need to do,” he said.
However, he admitted that the decision shattered him emotionally. He said that the night he returned home without his baby, sleep escaped him, as he was overwhelmed by guilt and regret.
He said he returned to the orphanage the very next day and brought his baby home, admitting that he could not live with the thought of abandoning his own child.
According to him, the guilt became unbearable the night he got home without the baby, leaving him unable to sleep. By morning, he knew he had to go back.
“The day I took her there and got home, I couldn’t sleep. The next day, I went back and carried my baby. I no go fit oo. I carried my baby oo,” he said, overwhelmed with emotion.
The man went on to appeal to women for help, saying he urgently needs someone who can assist him in caring for the child as he struggles to cope alone.
While some social media users flooded the comments with words of encouragement and support, others argued that parenting should not be reduced to seeking a caretaker under emotional distress.
One commenter wrote, “Parenting is not a joke, especially when you’re doing it alone. I pray he gets real help.” Another added, “Single father in the making — now you all will understand how it feels.”
