Premier League leaders Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead as they were held to a dramatic 2-2 draw by bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Wednesday night.

The result denied Mikel Arteta’s side the opportunity to move seven points clear at the top of the table. Instead, their advantage over Manchester City remains five points, with Pep Guardiola’s men still holding a game in hand.

Arteta watches on as Arsenal bottle two-goal lead against Wolves

Arsenal in control early

Arsenal made a bright start to the contest. Bukayo Saka celebrated his new five-year contract in style, heading home from Declan Rice’s cross in the fifth minute to end a 15-game goal drought.

The visitors looked composed and in command, doubling their lead in the 56th minute when Piero Hincapié calmly finished from a pass by Gabriel Magalhães for his first goal for the club.

At 2-0, Arsenal appeared to be cruising toward a routine victory. However, the momentum shifted soon after Saka was forced off following treatment, unsettling the visitors’ rhythm.

Wolves fight back

Wolves pulled one back in the 61st minute through Hugo Bueno, who curled a precise effort beyond David Raya to spark hope among the home supporters.

Sensing vulnerability, the hosts pressed forward relentlessly. Deep into stoppage time, a mix-up between Raya and Gabriel allowed substitute Tom Edozie, making his senior debut, to get a shot away. The ball struck Riccardo Calafiori and deflected in off the post for a dramatic equaliser.

The late setback left Arsenal stunned and reignited familiar questions about their staying power in the title race. Having finished second in each of the past three seasons, Arteta’s side once again face scrutiny over their ability to sustain a championship challenge.

For Wolves, meanwhile, the hard-fought draw provides a much-needed boost despite their position at the foot of the table.
