President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country are beginning to yield results. In a statement personally signed to mark the Easter celebrations, the President emphasised that while security challenges remain, concerted actions by the federal government and security agencies are producing tangible progress.

Addressing the nation, Tinubu reflected on the essence of Easter — a season symbolising sacrifice, resilience, and the triumph of light over darkness — and related it to Nigeria’s current realities. “For us in Nigeria, the essence resonates with our current realities as we navigate a period marked by economic strain and security challenges, even as determined efforts are underway to address them,” he said.

Acknowledging the Armed Forces and Security Agencies

The President commended the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and other security personnel, who he said consistently leave their families to confront threats in the nation. Despite these efforts, Tinubu noted that challenges persist, particularly in areas affected by terrorism, banditry, and communal clashes.

“Despite the good efforts of the administration and the gallant efforts of our men and women of the Armed Forces, challenges to our security have remained. However, my administration continues to make resources available and forge foreign partnerships to enable us to deal decisive blows to the agents of terror and banditry,” he stated.

Response to Jos Attack

Tinubu’s Easter message came just hours after a condolence visit to Jos, Plateau State, where at least 28 people were killed in a recent attack. During the visit, he met victims’ families and assured them of government support. He also offered personal condolences to a woman who was seen holding her deceased son in a viral video.

“To the victims, there is nothing I can give you, whether in billions of naira, but I can console you and promise that this experience will not repeat itself,” Tinubu said. He added that while monetary compensation cannot replace the lives lost, the government would continue to support and comfort affected families.

Government Measures and Partnerships

The President highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. These include the provision of resources to security agencies and strategic collaborations with international partners to reinforce counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations.

Tinubu further encouraged citizens to remain united and support lawful government efforts. “No nation can thrive where fear prevails, and no progress can be sustained without peace,” he said. He also urged Nigerians to reject forces that threaten collective peace and stability.

Focus on Long-Term Peace and Stability

Beyond immediate interventions, Tinubu pledged to restore affected communities like Jos to their former peaceful state. “The government was elected on the promise of peace and prosperity, and we remain committed to restoring safety and normalcy to cities impacted by violence rather than merely offering condolences,” he added.

The President’s Easter message reflects a dual approach: acknowledging the pain and sacrifices of Nigerians while highlighting the government’s ongoing security strategy to provide lasting solutions.
