Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has delivered a scathing reaction to the recent wave of killings in Plateau State, openly questioning the response of Nigeria’s leadership.
In a strongly worded message shared online, she expressed deep frustration over what she described as a troubling lack of urgency and empathy from those in power, especially as communities continue to mourn fresh losses.
“What Manner of Leadership Is This?”
Ezekwesili raised a piercing question that has since resonated across social media:
“What kind of leaders feast while their people are being slaughtered?”
Her statement reflects growing anger among Nigerians who feel that political activities continue as usual, even in the face of tragic loss of lives.
“Statements Are Not Enough”
She criticised what she described as a repetitive pattern of response—official statements, committees, and promises—without visible, lasting solutions.
According to her, these measures fall short of what is needed to truly address the scale of insecurity confronting the nation.
Her words were particularly emotional as she referenced victims of the violence, insisting that leadership must be held accountable for failing to protect lives.
A Call for Accountability
Beyond her criticism of government, Ezekwesili turned to Nigerians themselves, urging citizens not to become numb to the violence.
She called for a shift from passive grief to active demand for accountability, warning that silence only enables the cycle to continue.
“Nigeria is bleeding… and we cannot keep acting like this is normal,” she stressed.
A Nation on Edge
Her reaction adds to a growing list of voices demanding urgent and decisive action on insecurity, especially following the recent attack in Jos that has left families shattered and communities in fear.
As conversations continue to build, one question remains at the centre of it all—
how long can a nation endure without real change?
