A Nigerian man has shared a past relationship experience on social media, sparking renewed conversations about consent and personal boundaries in modern dating.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he recounted his brief relationship with a 20-year-old woman he dated several years ago.

Relationship strained by intimacy concerns

According to him, tensions arose during her visits when they attempted to become intimate. He explained that although they engaged in foreplay, he often sensed hesitation on her part.

Each time he noticed her reluctance, he said he chose to stop.

“The second time, the same thing happened, and I don’t like stressing myself when it comes to intimacy,” he wrote.

Concerned by the recurring pattern, he said he eventually asked her why she always seemed unwilling to proceed. She reportedly told him she had behaved similarly with her ex-boyfriend, whom she said had been her first sexual partner.

He added that she suggested he needed to put in more effort to make her “give in” and allegedly told him that if she asked him to stop, he should not actually stop.

Drawing a clear line

The man said he immediately rejected that idea.

According to him, he made it clear that he would never ignore a partner’s request to stop, as he did not want to risk being accused of forcing himself on anyone.

“I told her straight that I don’t do that,” he wrote.

He explained that the relationship lasted only three months before he decided to end it, saying the situation made him uncomfortable.

His post has since generated debate online, with many users weighing in on the importance of clear communication, mutual consent, and respecting boundaries in relationships.
