- Nigerian businesswoman Gladys Akibhor shared her experience of alleged severe physical, emotional, and verbal abuse by her ex-husband, which began shortly after their wedding and escalated within a year.
- She recounted two particularly shocking incidents: first, in 2015, after she fell and hot noodles spilled on her leg, causing pain, her husband allegedly slapped her and beat her for staining the wall instead of helping; second, she alleged receiving a severe beating in the village just for helping her injured brother-in-law, with her husband accusing her of being brought to the village for “nurse work.”
Sharing her story in Facebook posts on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Gladys alleged that the abuse began shortly after their wedding and quickly escalated within their first year of marriage.
According to her account, her ex-husband would allegedly slap, beat, and insult her over minor issues.
She recalled a particularly shocking incident from 2015 when she accidentally spilled hot noodles on herself after falling, causing her to scream in severe pain. Gladys claims that instead of helping her, her ex-husband allegedly beat her for staining the wall with the noodles.
She reflected on her experience, writing: “In May 2015, one fateful evening my Ex came back from work and we decided to eat noodles to sleep. After preparing it, I carry am dey go dinner table so we can eat together. I miss my step because the 2-bedroom apartment we lived has a step from the kitchen to the dinner,” she narrated.
I am not used to that type of house setting.
So I missed my step and that hot noodles pure on my legs in front of my Ex and I was screaming.
The next thing my Ex did was to use hot slap and ask me if I no dey see
The pains of that hot food on my leg disappeared immediately and tears was coming out of my eye
My Ex went straight to the kitchen, carry wet form with water and start cleaning (washing) his wall that the noodles pour,
was shouting at me, saying see how I dirty the wall.
That was the beginning of my Fear and carefulness in that marriage. I was in shock, that day made me to understand that my Ex value Material things more than human Life
I think I should stop, the more I write, the more a lot play in my head and headache no dey allow me. I never even start to talk about Emotional / verbal abuse. Una Don dey help me sad. I was eating insult like breakfast.
I should I talk about how I received the beating of my life for he village simply because I help his elder brother who had an accident on his way coming to village for Christmas. Na me talk say let go to your village and spend my first Christmas for your village, all this in 1 year oooo.
I go outside to pack cloth I wash and I come see the brother wound for he leg. I was like Brother waiting happen. He say Glad I get accident for bike as I dey come village. Immediately I keep the Cloth down and help him to nurse the wound because I no he can not do it on it own
After everything I carry cloth enter house. As I open door na heavy slap welcome me.
When I come ask waiting I do, his reply is; SO I CARRY YOU COME VILLAGE TO COME DO NURSE WORK ABE. LIKE YOUR ELDER BROTHER I HELP IS A CRIME.
