Beninese music legend Angélique Kidjo has teamed up with Nigerian Afropop sensation Ayra Starron a new single, “Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back?)”, released on March 27, 2026. The track serves as the lead single from Kidjo’s forthcoming 19th studio album, HOPE!!, set for release on April 24, 2026.
The collaboration blends Kidjo’s rich, traditional African sound with Ayra Starr’s modern Afrobeats and R&B influence, creating a vibrant cross-generational and cross-cultural musical experience. Both artistes share roots in the Benin Republic and Yoruba heritage, making the partnership a celebration of their shared cultural lineage.
A Song Born Amid a Blizzard
Kidjo shared the story behind the single on Instagram:
“On Feb 22nd, on the day of the Blizzard of the Century, I joined forces with Queen @ayrastarr at the Power Station Recording studio in New York. But not even a storm could prevent us from singing and dancing together! Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back?) was born!”
Produced by Louddaaa, the track features Femi Leye on guitar, Bishop Sax on saxophone, and mixing by Johnny Drille. Its lyrics explore themes of love and longing, moving fluently between English, Pidgin, and Yoruba, with Ayra Starr delivering expressive verses while Kidjo’s iconic vocals anchor the chorus.
The official music video, directed by Apmworld, mirrors the song’s energy with vibrant, colourful visuals that showcase the chemistry between the two artists.

A Legacy of African Musical Innovation
HOPE!! follows her critically acclaimed 2021 album Mother Nature, which earned Kidjo a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album. Widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential music figures, Kidjo has built a global reputation for blending traditional West African sounds with R&B, funk, jazz, and Latin music, and her collaborations with rising stars like Ayra Starr show how she continues to shape the future of African music.
