A Nigerian woman has sparked intense reactions online after sharing a bold — and controversial — piece of Valentine’s Day advice for women in relationships.
In a video currently circulating on social media, she jokingly cautioned ladies against tolerating boyfriends who fail to buy them gifts for Valentine’s Day.
According to her, any man who doesn’t express his love with presents should be “reported,” depending on his lifestyle.
In her words:
“If your boyfriend doesn’t buy you anything for Valentine’s Day and he smokes, report him to NDLEA. If he’s a Yahoo boy, report him to EFCC. If his car doesn’t have a plate number, report him to the police.”
“If he doesn’t have a driver’s licence, report him to VIO. If he doesn’t pay his taxes, report him to FIRS. This Valentine’s Day, don’t tolerate any boyfriend who won’t buy you a gift. He either shows up with a present, or you show him trouble.”
Her comments quickly sparked a wave of reactions online, with many Nigerians flooding the comment section to share their opinions.
One user joked, “Na wa o, Valentine don turn FBI investigation.”
Another wrote, “So because of teddy bear, make I go prison?”
A third added, “Ladies, abeg calm down. Some of us are still trying to survive January.”
While some people dismissed her remarks as cruise and lighthearted banter, others argued that effort and thoughtfulness still matter — especially on special occasions like Valentine’s Day.
As February 14 approaches, one thing is certain: the pressure is mounting, and social media isn’t making it any easier.
