A woman has touched the hearts of many online after opening up about a painful childhood experience that left a lasting emotional scar.

In a post shared on social media, she recalled a heartbreaking incident from her childhood when she begged her father for food because she was hungry, only to watch him buy a meal for the family’s dog instead.

According to her, she had approached her father that morning hoping he would get her something to eat. Rather than comfort or feed her, he allegedly dismissed her request with words she has never forgotten.

Recalling the moment, she said her father told her:

“No be only rice you go chop, na beans you go chop.”

She explained that a short while later, he returned home carrying a plate of rice and beef purchased from a roadside food vendor. Instead of giving it to her, he placed the meal on the ground, whistled for the family’s dog, Hero, and watched as the pet happily ran over to eat it.

Describing how the moment made her feel, she wrote:

“A few minutes later, Hero, our family dog came running to eat the plate of rice with beef. And I stood there watching and asking myself, ‘Am I really my father’s child?'”

Her emotional story has since gone viral, drawing an outpouring of sympathy from social media users.

Many described the incident as heartbreaking, while others shared similar experiences from their own childhoods, saying painful memories involving parents can linger for years.

Several commenters also urged parents to be mindful of how their words and actions can shape a child’s emotional well-being, stressing that seemingly small moments can leave lifelong scars.

The touching account has continued to spark conversations online about childhood trauma, parenting, and the lasting impact of emotional neglect.
