A Nigerian man has stirred concern on social media after speaking out about the state of the country’s healthcare system.
In a video that has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), shared by @General_Somto, he urged Nigerians to take their health seriously, claiming that funding released for the health sector in 2025 is alarmingly low.
Appealing directly to citizens, he said:
“If you are living in Nigeria, I want to beg you, please don’t fall sick. Except you have money, please don’t fall sick.”
He expressed shock over what he described as the amount released so far, alleging that although ₦218 billion was approved for the health sector in the 2025 budget, only ₦36 million has reportedly been disbursed. He characterised the figure as less than 0.01 percent of the approved allocation.
According to him, ₦36 million would make little to no meaningful impact in a country with a population of over 200 million people. To emphasise his point, he compared the amount to the cost of luxury vehicles used by some politicians, claiming that a brand-new Toyota Prado costs over ₦130 million.
He criticised what he called misplaced priorities, arguing that such a sum would be insufficient to fund hospital development, upgrade medical equipment, improve treatment facilities, or make healthcare more affordable for ordinary Nigerians.
“This is not attached to anyone. I am just stating facts,” he added. “When it comes to health in this country, the government has left the group chat. Every Nigerian is on their own.”
The video has since generated mixed reactions online. While many users expressed frustration and agreed with his concerns about the healthcare system, others questioned the accuracy of the figures he cited.
