A Nigerian lady has stirred conversations online after criticising trainers who expect students to perform chores despite paying to learn a skill.

Expressing her frustration in a viral video, she argued that enrolling in a paid training programme should not come with additional responsibilities unrelated to the actual learning process. According to her, such expectations are unfair and disrespectful to students.

In her words:

“If someone is paying you money to learn a skill, you’re not their madam. You’re their teacher.

If you say a price for your training and I pay that price in full, and you expect me to come to your shop by 7am to open and clean it for you, you are very mad.”

Her remarks quickly resonated with many Nigerians who shared similar experiences of being asked to sweep, clean, or run errands outside the scope of their lessons.

Social media users flooded the comment section with reactions. One person wrote, “Finally, someone said it! Teachers are not supposed to use learners as helpers.” Another added, “If you pay for a course, focus on learning, not cleaning someone’s shop.”

The viral post has since sparked broader discussions about professionalism and boundaries in vocational training, with many calling on instructors to respect paying students and maintain a clear distinction between teaching and personal errands.
