Relationship counsellor and cleric Kingsley Okonkwo has sparked debate online with a bold message to single men over 28 about marriage and financial growth.

Speaking during a recent teaching, Okonkwo challenged the common notion that men delay marriage due to lack of money, arguing instead that marriage itself can drive financial growth.

“If you’re a single man above 28, of course this is not absolute, but generally speaking, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to marry,” he said. “Many single men think, ‘I’m not married because I don’t have money.’ No, it’s because you’re not married that you don’t have money. Statistically, married people make more money than single people.”

Marriage as a catalyst for growth
Okonkwo explained that responsibility forces personal development. A single man can survive comfortably on the bare minimum, but a married man has to provide for a family, which compels him to level up.

“As a single man, you don’t have to make more money. But a married person—whether you like it or not—you have to make more money. And once you set your mind to do something, the circumstances and resources you need will come,” he added.

He emphasized that money should not be the main barrier to marriage, highlighting three key essentials for young men seeking to marry, with financial wealth not among them. He also referenced biblical principles, noting that certain milestones are meant to be achieved in youth rather than waiting until 40.

This statement follows recent controversy surrounding Okonkwo after he revealed a tattoo marking his birthday, which he claimed was biblically inspired.
