An examination in the Department of Accounting at the University of Calabar was abruptly cancelled after an examiner allegedly distributed question papers that contained both the questions and their corresponding answers.

According to reports circulating among students, the error became apparent shortly after the exam began, when candidates noticed that the correct answers were printed on the same sheet as the questions.

Exam Disrupted After Late Disclosure

Despite realising the mistake early, students reportedly remained silent and continued writing the exam without drawing attention to it.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn about five minutes before the scheduled end of the paper. A female student reportedly stood up and informed the invigilators that the answer key had been included in the question paper.

Witnesses said she explained that she could no longer keep quiet about the situation and felt compelled to speak up. Her disclosure reportedly threw the examination hall into confusion, as invigilators moved quickly to verify the claim. After confirming that the answers had indeed been printed alongside the questions, the examiner was notified and the examination was immediately cancelled.

Fresh Date to Be Announced

Students were instructed to stop writing and submit their scripts, while departmental officials announced that a new date would be scheduled for a fresh assessment.

The incident has since sparked debate among students, with many discussing issues of academic integrity, personal conscience, and collective responsibility during examinations.

As of the time of filing this report, the university had not released an official statement indicating whether disciplinary action would be taken against the examiner or if a formal investigation would follow.
