A woman has opened up about her regret over ending a relationship in 2018, admitting that her decision to leave her boyfriend for financial reasons has been followed by years of struggle.
Speaking candidly on social media, she shared how she walked away from a man who was not financially stable at the time, believing she would find someone who could offer her a more comfortable life. Instead, she says, the years that followed have been marked by hardship and disappointment.
Regret Over Choosing Money
Reflecting on her past decision, she expressed deep remorse.
“If I had known life would turn out like this, I would have stayed with the guy I was dating in 2018,” she said. “Since I left him, it’s been one struggle after another. I don’t know if he placed a curse on me, but he shouldn’t have, because I only left thinking other men were better.”
She added that, in hindsight, she would have preferred to build a future with him, even if he had very little at the time.
“Even if he only had ₦5,000 and gave me ₦4,500, I would have stayed and built with him. I’m sure we would have made it together. Now it even looks like things are getting better for him.”
A Word of Caution
The woman also reflected on the advice she received back then, saying that encouragement to leave in search of something “better” turned out to be misleading.
“People will tell you that what you want is out there, but sometimes it’s not. Some of the things we think exist are just imagination — they’re not really there,” she lamented.
Her story has since resonated with many online, sparking conversations about love, financial expectations, contentment, and the long-term impact of decisions made at a young age.
