The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended nine students over cases of examination malpractice and result forgery, according to a report by TheCable.
The decision was announced on Tuesday in an official statement signed by the Registrar, Chukwuka Icha. He stated that the action followed deliberations at the university’s 252nd Senate meeting.
Senate Reviews Committee Reports
According to the statement, the Senate carefully reviewed findings submitted by its ad hoc committee on examination malpractice as well as reports from the students’ disciplinary committee.
Five of the students were found guilty of involvement in examination malpractice, while the remaining four were sanctioned for presenting forged academic results during their admission process.
“After reviewing the reports and recommendations of the committees, the management resolved that the affected students should be suspended for two academic sessions. The suspension will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic year,” the statement read.
Departments of Affected Students
Among those suspended are five students from the Department of Pharmacy: Akwuba Enestina and Udom Iboro (both 300 level), Nwankwo Daniel (200 level), and Ore Israel and Chisom Ejafa (500 level).
Other students affected include Lazarus Ebogo from the Department of Home Economics, Ele Godwin from the Department of Zoology, Ofem Patrick from the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, and Makailu Pamilo from the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies.
The university management has directed the relevant heads of departments and deans to enforce the suspension, while the Acting Chief Security Officer has been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
