Nigerian singer Chike has accused a social media user, Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, of allegedly defrauding him in a business deal that went wrong.
The music star made the claim in a series of posts shared on X on Monday morning, where he detailed how the transaction reportedly unfolded.
Alleged failed business deal
According to Chike, he paid Ochibili about $20,000 for what was presented to him as a business opportunity. However, he later claimed to have discovered that the proposed venture allegedly did not exist.
Expressing his frustration online, the singer said he was shocked to realise he might have been deceived.
“Chioma Nneoma Ochibili, so you are a thief? That’s how they do. They will tell you they are doing certain business. Her business is to survive on your money.
$50,000 in the air. $20,000 of my hard-earned money I didn’t see either. How do I find out this late that I’m just another person she has duped. Even me I dey laugh myself,” he wrote.
Singer warns others
Chike also warned his followers to be cautious and avoid entering into any business arrangements with the woman.
After some followers asked him to clarify the nature of the deal, the singer said the specific type of business was not the main issue.
According to him, the bigger concern is that the supposed venture allegedly never existed in the first place.
“Whatever business Chioma sells to you is not the issue. The big issue here is that the business does not even exist, which then equates to fraud,” he added.
Efforts to recover the money
The singer further revealed that he has begun taking steps to recover the money he claims to have lost.
He explained that the arrangement was initially presented as a legitimate business opportunity, but the situation changed after he allegedly discovered that the business itself was not real.
“For context, it was a business transaction, but when the business does not even exist that becomes fraud. When you find out that this is Chioma’s modus operandi, it becomes worrisome,” he stated.
The allegations have since generated reactions online, with many social media users urging caution when entering into business agreements, even with people known through online platforms.
