A student at Veritas University has voiced frustration over poor facilities at the private institution, highlighting that students are enduring days without electricity or water despite paying hefty tuition fees.
In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter) by @AsakyGRN, the student revealed that his course costs ₦1.9 million, while some other programs go as high as ₦3 million.
“I’m in a school that charges ₦1.9 million for my course, while some others go as high as ₦3 million. Yet, we don’t have electricity, even though it’s a private university. There’s been no water for days, and everyone is just keeping quiet. We’re over 7,000 students in this school. Calculate ₦1.9 million by 7,000, and they still can’t give us power,” he said.
He added that more than 7,000 students are affected, many forced to find alternative ways to access electricity and water, while the university management has remained silent.
The student called on the university authorities to take responsibility and provide the essential facilities students are paying for, emphasizing that the current situation is unacceptable.
The video has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians criticizing private universities for charging millions in tuition without ensuring basic services. Some suggested withholding fees until improvements are made, while others expressed sympathy for the students’ plight.
