A Nigerian lady has sparked reactions online after sharing how listening to her friend’s advice may have cost her a promising relationship.
The lady, identified as @ARIAREIGN180683 on X (formerly Twitter), narrated how she met a man from Benin, Edo State, and how things quickly blossomed between them. According to her, the man treated her exceptionally well — taking her on dates and spending generously on her within just a short time of meeting at a pool party.
Things seemed to get even more serious when he invited her over to his home, where she met his mother. She described the experience as warm and welcoming, noting that his mother treated her like family.
“His mom was around that day. Surprisingly, she welcomed me with open arms… she even cooked for me. She asked me to join her in the kitchen but didn’t let me touch anything since I was a guest. We ate and laughed, and she even gifted me her favorite jewelry,” she shared.
However, just as the relationship was about to take a more serious turn, her best friend advised her against dating men from Benin. Trusting her friend’s judgment, she chose to walk away.
Now, things have taken an unexpected twist. The same friend who warned her is reportedly in a relationship with a Benin man and has been for over a year.
Feeling hurt and betrayed, the lady expressed her regret:
“And that my friend is now dating a Benin guy… they’ve been together for a year now, even did anniversary. She deceived me, I feel so hurt. But I can’t reach out because my pride won’t let me.”
Her story has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many debating friendship, advice, and the risks of letting others influence personal decisions.
At the heart of it all is a question many can relate to: When it comes to love, how much should we really listen to other people’s opinions?
