Jos, Plateau State – A wave of fear and uncertainty has settled over residents of Jos North Local Government Area as the Plateau State Government imposed a 48-hour curfew following a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba that left several people dead and others injured.

The curfew, which began at midnight on March 29 and is expected to run until April 1, was announced in an official statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap.

According to the government, the decision became necessary after a tragic incident in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, on Sunday—an attack that has since heightened tension and unrest across the area.

In the statement, authorities said the restriction was put in place in collaboration with security agencies to prevent further violence and restore calm. Residents have been directed to remain indoors, with movement strictly limited except for essential services.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked.” He reassured residents that security operatives have been deployed and that efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible.

The governor also emphasized that his administration remains committed to protecting lives and property, noting that those behind the violence will be brought to justice.

Residents have been urged to stay calm, obey the curfew, and support security agencies with useful information that could aid investigations.

This development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in Plateau and surrounding regions. Just weeks earlier, a deadly ambush in Kanam Local Government Area claimed the lives of over 20 security personnel and vigilantes during a routine patrol.

Local groups say communities across parts of Plateau, as well as neighbouring states like Taraba and Bauchi, have continued to suffer from repeated attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling—leaving many communities living in fear.

As the curfew takes effect, many residents are left hoping for peace, even as the pain of recent losses lingers heavily across affected communities.
