The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to destabilise its leadership through political interference and alleged pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement shared on social media, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi described the alleged efforts as part of a “desperate” move to influence the party’s internal affairs, particularly following ADC’s recent engagements with former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Pressure on INEC

Abdullahi claimed that APC-linked agents previously sought to compel INEC into taking “illegal action” against the ADC, but their attempts reportedly failed due to resistance from the electoral body.

Planned Protest in Abuja

The opposition party further alleged that a new strategy is underway, involving a planned protest in Abuja on Thursday, April 2. According to Abdullahi, the demonstration is being sponsored by “a particularly notorious minister,” and would feature a paid crowd posing as disgruntled ADC members.

The purpose, the party claims, is to publicly pressure INEC to recognise an individual the ADC says has already resigned and been expelled, thereby threatening the party’s legitimate leadership. Abdullahi warned that such moves undermine democratic processes and the stability of opposition parties.

Appeal to the Presidency

The ADC spokesperson also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, should the alleged actions be carried out without his knowledge.

“If they are not acting on his orders, President Tinubu should rein in his enforcers before it is too late,” Abdullahi stated.

As of now, the APC and relevant government officials have not responded to the allegations.
