A heart-wrenching scene on the streets of Nigeria has captured the attention of social media users after a young lady shared a video of an elderly man struggling to survive by selling sachet water. The clip, which quickly went viral, highlights the harsh realities many Nigerians face amid rising living costs.
In the video, the lady pointed at the man and questioned how much profit he could possibly make from selling pure water. Speaking in a mix of Pidgin and English, she said:
“If I dey talk say life hard for Nigeria, I no wetin I dey talk? See this elderly man where dey sell pure water… How much water person go sell, where go reach person to feed family?”
Her words reflected both frustration and empathy, as she tried to highlight the struggle of surviving in difficult economic conditions.
The elderly man, calm despite his hardship, explained that selling sachet water is what he relies on after losing his previous business. He revealed that profit margins are tiny, with a full bag of water bringing just about ₦200 — barely enough to support his household.
He further shared that he has a large family to care for, which makes survival even more challenging. Yet, despite the struggles, he continues selling water to make ends meet, embodying resilience in the face of adversity.
The video has sparked conversations online about poverty, survival, and the daily challenges facing ordinary Nigerians.
