President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the growing hardship caused by rising fuel prices, while urging Nigerians to remain hopeful about the country’s economic direction.

Speaking during a visit to Bayelsa State on Friday, the President admitted that the increase in fuel prices is affecting citizens but maintained that the situation could be worse.

“The fuel price is biting hard, but look around. Let us just thank God together that you are better off,” he said.

Tinubu also compared Nigeria’s current situation with other African countries, suggesting that the economic challenges are not unique to Nigeria alone.

According to him, countries like Kenya are facing similar struggles, stressing that global economic conditions are contributing to the hardship.

“We will not look back. We will continue to find ways to ameliorate the suffering of the vulnerable. This is a government that cares,” he added.

The President further explained that the current economic strain is partly due to global factors beyond Nigeria’s control, describing it as a shared challenge in an interconnected world.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu’s administration has implemented major economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.

While these policies are aimed at long-term economic stability, they have also led to rising inflation and increased cost of living, leaving many Nigerians feeling the impact.
