Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna over alleged corruption charges.
The court, presided over by Justice Rilwanu Aikawa, fixed his bail at ₦200 million with two sureties in like sum. However, despite securing bail, El-Rufai will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) until all the conditions are fully met.
According to the court, the bail terms are quite strict. One of the sureties must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the other must be a recognised traditional ruler. Both are also required to deposit their international passports with the court.
In addition, the former governor has been barred from making any public statements regarding the case and must be present at all court sittings as the trial continues.
The case, which had earlier been adjourned to allow both sides present their arguments, remains ongoing, with El-Rufai expected to stay in custody until he satisfies all the bail requirements.
The development has already started generating reactions, as many Nigerians watch closely to see how the case unfolds.
