A Nigerian lawyer has set social media buzzing after breaking down the type of bail granted to crypto entrepreneur Linus Williams Ifejirika (BLord).

After news surfaced that BLord was released on self-recognizance, many Nigerians were left wondering what that actually means — and why he didn’t need anyone to stand as a surety.

In a viral video, the lawyer explained that this kind of bail is based on trust rather than financial backing.

According to him, unlike the usual process where a person must present a surety who takes responsibility if they fail to appear in court, self-recognizance bail allows the court to release someone based on their own credibility.

In simple terms, the court believes the person has too much at stake — reputation, business, or public image — to run away.

He also pointed out that many people don’t get this kind of privilege, as courts often require stricter conditions for individuals seen as less financially or socially stable.

The explanation has sparked debate online, with some Nigerians questioning whether wealth and status influence how bail is granted, while others argue it’s simply a practical legal decision.
