. “Nollywood filmmaker Ini Edo has faced a formal rebuke from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over her new project, A Very Dirty Christmas.
. The religious body claims the film’s title trivializes the sacred nature of the holiday, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ.
. CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh emphasized that Christmas is a symbol of purity and redemption, stating that associating it with the word ‘dirty’ creates a crude and sensationalist narrative that undermines the faith.”

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ini Edo has responded to criticism surrounding her latest film, A Very Dirty Christmas, following objections from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
CAN had earlier expressed strong disapproval over the movie’s title, describing it as offensive and disrespectful to Christian beliefs. The organization emphasized that Christmas is a sacred period celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, symbolizing purity, love, peace, and redemption. CAN argued that pairing the term “dirty” with such a holy occasion undermines its spiritual significance and turns a solemn celebration into something sensationalized.
The association also urged the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to clarify how the movie title received approval for public screening, especially during the Christmas period. Additionally, CAN called on Nollywood stakeholders to take a firm stance on the use of religious imagery and themes that could be perceived as disrespectful, while asking Ini Edo to show consideration for the concerns raised by the Christian community.
In a recent Instagram post, Ini Edo thanked her fans for their continued support and described the film as “clean, refreshing, and intriguing.” She also promised viewers an enjoyable and entertaining experience when watching the movie.
“I am in love with all of you for your support thus far… Thank you for watching A Very Dirty Christmas… Fam, this is your perfect holiday movie for your family and friends… It’s clean, it’s refreshing, it’s intriguing… You will have a great time, I promise,” she wrote.
