President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, located in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Alongside the approval, the President also sanctioned a ₦15 billion take-off grant to support the development of the institution.
According to official details, the funding will be sourced from the 2026 allocation of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and will be used to build essential infrastructure, including academic facilities, student accommodation, and core training equipment.
The move aligns with the provisions of the Police Academy Establishment Act (2021), which allows for expansion into multiple campuses beyond its current base in Wudil, Kano State.
The decision to site the new campus in Ogun State followed consultations involving key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Officials say the expansion is aimed at improving training capacity, strengthening modern policing education, and addressing the manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force.
This development also ties into broader security reforms, coming months after the President declared a national security emergency and approved the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers.
Authorities believe the new campus will play a key role in boosting institutional capacity and enhancing the overall effectiveness of policing across the country.
