The online clash involving Seun Kuti, activist Martins Vincent Otse (VDM), and a group known as “Ratels” has taken a fresh turn, as Motunrayo Bakare steps into the conversation with strong remarks.
Motunrayo, who is Seun Kuti’s sister, reacted in a viral video where she criticized the Ratels, accusing them of lacking proper upbringing and failing to respect the legacy of their father, the legendary Fela Kuti.
Her comments come amid growing tension online, which intensified after the release of social commentator Blord. Following that, VDM called out activist Omoyele Sowore over his involvement in the situation, further fueling the controversy.
In her response, Motunrayo questioned whether VDM now sees himself as being on the same level as Fela, referencing earlier claims that the Ratels frequently bring up Fela’s name whenever Seun Kuti is mentioned. She maintained that such comparisons are disrespectful to the late icon’s legacy.
She went further to state that if she were in charge of managing Fela’s estate, she would have taken legal action against individuals she believes are misusing his name for relevance. Turning her attention directly to VDM, she made personal remarks about his background, alleging issues surrounding his family upbringing.
Motunrayo also took aim at VDM’s supporters, suggesting that many of them are struggling financially, while she continues to benefit from the enduring legacy of her father.
This development follows earlier comments by Seun Kuti, who described the Ratels as “rats” over their attacks on him. Despite the tension, he maintained that he is friends with both Sowore and VDM and does not intend to take sides.
The situation has since sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some users criticizing Motunrayo’s tone, while others defended her stance. The controversy has also reignited debates around respect, legacy, and influence, with some even making bold comparisons between VDM and Fela Kuti.
