The activist and former presidential candidate has declared MTN Nigeria the biggest data thief in the country, and he is not calming down anytime soon. On Tuesday, he announced that a seven-day ultimatum he gave the telecom giant has now expired and nothing has changed. So what is next? Nationwide protests. 🗣️✊🏽
“MTN is still stealing customers’ data. They remain the biggest thief of data in this country,” Sowore said. He also laughed off the refunds some customers reportedly received, calling them “damage control.” Whether it is 400 Naira or 46,000 Naira, he says it is nothing but a poor attempt to wash their hands off a dirty situation. 💸🧼🚫
But here is the part that will make every Nigerian nod their head in frustration. Sowore claimed that MTN steals about 55,000 Naira worth of data from him personally every single month. Yes, 55k.
He buys a plan that should last 30 days, but according to him, it vanishes in just three days. Three days! 😡📉💔
“In my own case, MTN steals about 55,000 Naira worth of data from me every month. I buy what is supposed to last a full month, yet it finishes in just three days. Many others report similar experiences,” he said.
And he is not stopping with MTN. Sowore dragged Airtel, Globacom, and even the regulators into the mess, accusing them all of being complicit in what he calls systemic exploitation. According to him, people are already on standby across the country, ready to occupy MTN offices if things do not change. 🏢🚪👥
This is not the first time Nigerians have shouted about disappearing data. Similar complaints exploded in 2023, with many accusing telecom companies of stealing from them in broad daylight. But this time, Sowore is trying to turn the shouting into action. Whether the protests will actually happen or whether MTN will listen is anyone’s guess. But one thing is clear: the man is angry, and he says the people are ready. 🍿
