The friend just had her first baby. Her own mother is late. Her sisters live far away. The only family member close enough to help was her mother-in-law. So she came for omugwo. But instead of support, the new mum got something else entirely.
The mother-in-law arrived with her two grandchildren, aged 9 and 12. Then she sat down. She did not cook. She did not wash clothes. She did not care for the newborn. Nothing. 🚫
The new mother, still weak from childbirth, was doing everything herself. But here is the part that broke people online. The mother-in-law would add her own clothes and the children’s clothes for the new mum to wash. Every single day. For one full week. 😭
