Brazil forward Neymar has extended his contract with Santos until the end of 2026, a move aimed squarely at reviving his international career and forcing his way back into Brazil’s World Cup plans.

The 33-year-old returned to his boyhood club in January 2025 and has not featured for the Seleção since 2023 due to persistent injury setbacks.

World Cup ambition drives decision

Neymar’s extension is a strategic play to remain match-fit and visible ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that a recall will only come if Neymar proves he is fully fit.

Brazil, five-time world champions, are drawn in Group C alongside Scotland, Morocco and Haiti.
