President Bola Tinubu has broken his silence on the tragic school abduction in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. Gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota Community Grammar School, Esiele, and LA Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday, May 15.
In a statement issued on Monday, the President condemned the killing of one of the teachers who was murdered while rescue operations were ongoing. He described the act as barbaric.
Tinubu assured Nigerians that security operatives are working tirelessly to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible. He also warned that any collaborators within the community will be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.
The President expressed sympathy to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State. He commended the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioners of Police in Oyo and Kwara States for their quick intervention.
He revealed that the IGP, following his instructions, is personally leading a tech-driven operation. He expects a breakthrough soon.
Tinubu also used the opportunity to push for state police. “Cases of kidnapping further make imperative the establishment of state police to man some of our underserved areas. The National Assembly should accelerate the enactment of the law creating state police,” he said.
