Tributes have begun pouring in following the passing of Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who has died at the age of 47 after spending nearly four years in a coma.

According to reports from TMZ, the princess passed away following long-term complications after collapsing in 2022 due to a heart-related condition.

Hospitalization After Sudden Collapse

Princess Bajrakitiyabha had been hospitalized since December 2022 after she reportedly collapsed while training her dogs. Medical reports at the time indicated that she suffered a serious heart condition that left her in a coma, from which she never fully recovered.

Her condition had remained a subject of national concern in Thailand for years, with the royal family providing updates on her health from time to time.

A Life of Public Service

Princess Bajrakitiyabha was widely respected in Thailand for her contributions to law, diplomacy, and international development.

She studied law at Thammasat University before earning a Master of Laws degree from Cornell University in the United States. She later worked as a public prosecutor in Thailand.

Beyond her legal career, she also served as Thailand’s ambassador to Austria between 2012 and 2014, strengthening diplomatic relations during her tenure.

In 2017, she was appointed as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, where she focused on issues relating to women’s rights and crime prevention.

Throughout her career, the princess was regarded as one of the most prominent members of the Thai royal family, admired for her advocacy on justice reform and social development issues.

Her passing comes at a time when Thailand has also been dealing with the aftermath of severe flooding in late November 2025, which affected 12 southern provinces following heavy seasonal rainfall.

The disaster, triggered by flash floods and mudslides, devastated several communities. The Hat Yai district was declared a disaster zone after rising waters reached rooftop levels in some areas.

Officials reported at least 33 deaths, with causes including drowning, flash flooding, and electrocution. Around 400,000 children were affected, with three confirmed fatalities among minors.
