A Nigerian man has sparked conversations online after sharing how he allegedly lost access to ₦3 million he lent a close friend to help boost his proof of funds for relocation to Canada.
Man Says He Borrowed the Money From His Wife
According to the man, he did not have the funds readily available and had to obtain the money from his wife because the friend was someone they both knew and trusted.
Confident that the money would be returned after the visa process, he agreed to help his friend by temporarily providing the funds needed to meet the financial requirements for relocation.
However, things reportedly took an unexpected turn after his friend successfully arrived in Canada.
Friend’s Father Allegedly Refuses to Return the Money
The man explained that he was later informed that the ₦3 million had been transferred to his friend’s father, who was expected to return the money to him.
Instead, the elderly man allegedly refused to release the funds, insisting that his son should be responsible for repaying the debt.
To make matters worse, the man claimed that the money had already been spent.
Sharing his experience, he wrote:
“I borrowed a friend ₦3 million to add to the proof of funds he needed to travel to Canada. I got the money from my wife, and because this friend is a close pal, my wife knows him very well.”
He continued:
“To cut the long story short, the dad has refused to release the money, saying his son—my friend—should find a way to refund me himself. Meanwhile, the man has used the money to buy a brand-new motorcycle.”
Efforts to Recover the Money Unsuccessful
The frustrated lender said he personally reached out to his friend’s father to explain how urgently he needed the money returned, but the conversation reportedly did not end well.
According to him:
“I even called the man to explain how urgently I need the money, but he simply hissed and hung up on me. Honestly, I’m so pissed.”
Social Media Reacts
The story has since generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users sharing opinions on friendship, trust, and the risks involved in lending money to relatives or close associates.
While some sympathized with the man and criticized the actions of both the friend and his father, others argued that financial agreements involving large sums should always be properly documented, regardless of the relationship involved.
The incident has also reignited discussions about proof-of-funds arrangements and the potential risks that come with helping others secure relocation opportunities.
