A Nigerian man has sparked reactions on social media after sharing details of how his finances reportedly deteriorated during a past relationship and how his life changed following the breakup.
The man, identified on X as @sleektru, recounted his experience in a now-viral post that has garnered more than 230,000 views.
According to him, he was forced to sell several personal belongings while dating his ex-girlfriend in 2022, although he did not disclose her identity.
Among the items he claimed to have sold were his refrigerator, water dispenser, vacuum cleaner, sound system, three air conditioners, and a 55-inch television. He also revealed that he downgraded from an iPhone 12 Pro Max to an older iPhone model within a span of seven months.
Reflecting on the period, he said the sales left him with only a few household appliances and an almost empty living room.
He wrote:
“I downgraded my iPhone 12 Pro Max to an XS Max.
I sold my 55-inch TV.
I sold my fridge.
I sold my sound system.
I sold three ACs.
I sold my water dispenser.
I sold my vacuum cleaner.
I was left with my cooker and washing machine. My sitting room felt so empty.”
Life After the Breakup
The social media user went on to reveal that things began to improve shortly after the relationship ended.
According to him, just three weeks after the breakup, he experienced a significant turnaround in his finances. He attributed the positive change to a period of prayer and fasting, which he said he undertook on a mountain.
The experience, however, left a lasting impression on him.
He explained that he has since become more cautious about the people he allows into his life, particularly when it comes to romantic relationships.
“Since then, I’m always careful of any girl coming into my life, whether as a friend or in a relationship. One month with you is enough for me to know the kind of energy and spirit you bring into my life,” he stated.
His post has since generated mixed reactions online, with many users sharing their opinions on relationships, financial responsibility, and personal boundaries.
