A businesswoman has gone viral on social media after sharing an emotional account of how she allegedly lost two business locations despite investing heavily in renovating the properties.
In a video that has attracted widespread attention online, the entrepreneur recounted the challenges she faced while trying to build and sustain her business in Lagos, claiming that repeated issues with landlords left her financially drained and emotionally exhausted.
‘I Spent Millions Renovating the Space’
According to the woman, she invested millions of naira transforming a rented property into an attractive and functional commercial space for her business.
However, after completing the renovations and increasing the property’s appeal, she said her landlord issued her a quit notice, claiming the building was needed for personal use.
The businesswoman alleged that after she vacated the premises, the property was eventually rented out to another tenant operating a similar business, leaving her feeling deceived and exploited.
Another Setback at a New Location
Determined not to give up, she said she downsized and moved her business to a smaller location in an effort to recover from the financial losses.
Unfortunately, she claimed she encountered another setback when the landlord of the new property also asked her to vacate the premises.
According to her, the landlord explained that the building was going to be demolished and subsequently served her a quit notice.
The repeated experiences, she said, have left her questioning whether the years of hard work and financial investment were worth it.
‘Lagos Landlords Will Humble You’
Expressing her frustration in the video, the businesswoman described what she believes are some of the biggest challenges faced by tenants and small business owners in Lagos.
“This is how I lost everything. I’m so tired. Lagos landlords will humble you. It’s from spending millions of naira to renovate a space and landlords always trying to oppress or evict you.
“At my previous place, the landlord gave us a quit notice and claimed she wanted to use it for her personal use, only to rent it to another person who was doing the same business.
“Then we had to downsize to a smaller place, trying to recover all the losses.
“The landlord said he wanted to demolish it and told us to pack out, giving us another quit notice. At this point, I’m tired.”
Social Media Users React
The video has since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences involving landlords and commercial property rentals.
While some sympathized with the entrepreneur and praised her resilience, others advised business owners to secure written agreements that address renovation costs and compensation before making major investments in rented properties.
As the video continues to circulate, it has reignited discussions about the challenges many small business owners face in securing stable commercial spaces and protecting their investments.
