A lady has narrated how her aunt allegedly lost ₦1 million after lending money to a former classmate she reconnected with during a school reunion, despite receiving an earlier warning not to give out loans to people from the gathering.
According to the narrator, it was her aunt’s first time attending the reunion in several years. She said many of her former classmates were excited to see her, but one old friend quietly pulled her aside and warned her not to lend money to anyone from the group, claiming that some members had a reputation for borrowing money without paying it back.
Despite the warning, her aunt remained in touch with one of her former classmates after the reunion. The two reportedly spoke regularly on the phone and appeared to have rebuilt their friendship.
About a month later, the woman contacted her aunt, requesting a ₦2 million loan to restock her business. She promised to repay the money within a week after receiving funds from another loan she was expecting.
Although she requested ₦2 million, the aunt transferred ₦1 million to her.
Former Classmate Allegedly Disappears After Receiving ₦1 Million
Sharing the story, the lady wrote:
“A very old friend approached my aunt at the reunion and told her that if any of them asked her for money, she shouldn’t give them because it’s a common habit among some of them and they don’t pay back.”
She continued:
“My aunt borrowed her ₦1 million. All of a sudden, the woman stopped calling and stopped answering my aunt’s calls. Weeks went by and she didn’t refund the money. It was then my aunt realised that a 58-year-old woman had allegedly duped her.”
Another Classmate Reportedly Had a Similar Experience
According to the narrator, her aunt later reached out to another male classmate to seek advice on the situation.
The man reportedly revealed that he had experienced something similar with the same woman. He claimed he had lent her money twice in the past, but after receiving the second loan, she cut off communication and never repaid him.
The story has since sparked conversations online, with many social media users advising people to be cautious when lending money, even to old friends or acquaintances they reconnect with after many years.
